Some decades ago, smoking cigarettes was all the rage, bespeaking a sophisticated individual in tune with the times. Smoking was cool and no one had an inkling as to the damage we were doing to our bodies. Smoking and cancer were not even associated and the cigarette companies made money hand over fist with their offerings.
Now, we all know better. Smoking is the big bugaboo and everyone knows it. We all know smoking causes lung cancer and yet millions of people still smoke, unable to tear themselves away from this wretched habit. Do we really need any more reasons to quit smoking?
It appears so. Among the obvious reasons to quit smoking are cancer and potential death. Why is it that so many of us continue to smoke, despite the evidence of grave consequences to our own well being? The answer lies deeply disguised within the cigarette industry.
Perhaps the most profound of reasons to quit smoking is that by failing to do so, you are thus giving up your own freedom. You choose to smoke, you are not forced to do so. If you are still a smoker, you must ask yourself why you make this choice in the face of all the evidence that this is a self-destructive choice.
Do you know that the ordinary cigarette contains anywhere from 500 to 1000 chemical additives? Therein lies the rub. It's true that nicotine is addictive, but it's really the chemical additives that enslave you.
In recent years, there's a new niche market in the tobacco industry, that of the “natural” tobacco products which contain no additives, only pure tobacco containing nicotine. This non-additive tobacco product presents us with an interesting dilemma. To what are you actually enslaved? The nicotine or the additives? Why can't you quit?
If you closely examine the legitimate reasons to quit smoking, they are many. There's your children and your children's children. Don't you want to be around to see them grow, be there for your children, and enjoy a better state of health? Of course you do. Other reasons to quit smoking include eliminating the expense of buying the tobacco, stinky ashtrays and clothing, as well as the social stigma now associated with the habit. It's no longer cool to be a smoker.
If you take a long and honest look, the reasons to quit smoking far outweigh any pleasure you may realize from this habit.
Try this first step. Switch from the national brands to the natural tobaccos. You'll find that eliminating additives from your cigarettes will cause you to experience the same withdrawal sysmptoms as you've had when you last attempted to quit smoking. What does that tell you? The cigarette companies have enslaved you with a bunch of chemicals. You'll find that, although nicotine is addictive, it's something you can easily beat.
If you're looking for reasons to quit smoking that will really stick and provide the motivation you need, consider your freedom of choice. They've been trying to fool you all this time.
