I have a small apartment, but it is crammed floor to ceiling with psychology research articles. I have psychological journal articles, printouts from Internet self-help sites, library books, bookstore books, and countless cutouts from newspapers. With all of this information lying around my apartment, you might think that I am a psychologist, but I am not. Although psychology careers tempted me at one point, I have decided to go into another field. The psychology research articles, actually, are there because I find them so interesting and useful. You wouldn't think that they would be practical, but most of the stuff that I read in psychology research journals can be applied to my life. If you don't believe me, read a psychology research article yourself. I bet you'll be amazed with what you find!

For example, the other day I read a psychology research article about decision-making. According to the psychological research, people make the best decisions by trusting their instincts. Basically, the researchers found out that people who think about a problem, sleep on it, and then make a decision based on what they feel after letting their mind go for a while, make better choices than people who ponder and ponder until they can come up with the perfect decision.

The implications of psychology research articles like this are profound and obvious. It really showed me how to make decisions. Up until I read that article, I had thought – like most people think – that the best way to make a decision is to consider it from every possible angle until you come up with the perfect solution. Apparently, you actually do better if you trust your gut when it comes time to decide. Without psychology research articles, I never would have known this. Now I am able to adjust the way that I do things to keep up with the latest mental health research.

Of course, not all psychology research articles are directly applicable to your life. For example, I read an article psychology research about sociopaths the other day. Apparently, sociopathology is much more common than most people know. According to psychology research articles, most workplaces have a sociopath – someone who is unable to feel emotions and is a calm manipulator of everyone around them. Although psychology research articles like this can be helpful if you have someone like that in your workplace, their conclusions can be kind of scary and difficult to apply to your life.
