The Internet has altered reality as we once knew it. I went to high school in the 1990s and we never had such technology and communication realms as kids do now days. No cellular telephones and no Hi5 websites. It was all about the standard telephone back then. Well, if you have children now, especially teenagers, you know this is no longer the case. They spend hours and hours online. Websites like Myspace.com are all the rage and kids are eating it up. And if they're not posting a new my space background, they're probably chatting via AOL instant messenger. Well, I guess we parents should look at the bright side. At least they're not always tying up the phone lines anymore.
Many of us have a different take on the website stravaganza known as Myspace.com. First of all, teenagers adore it. This is no big secret by any means. They're so busy chatting it up with their so-called friends and posting a new my space background that they could never spot the drawbacks. Just to be clear, there are some. Aside from getting hardly any exercise, our teenagers are conversing with people they don't really even know. Ponder the variety of unsavory individuals surfing the web for naive teens. Well guess what; this is like a candy store for these weirdoes. They start a Myspace account, post whatever information they please about themselves, whether true or false, and begin making connections with high school kids. By the way, do you have any clue who your son or daughter has been chatting with on Myspace.com? Granted, the whole concept began as an innocuous one, but as always with the Internet, bad element has made its way in. What started as peers gossiping back and fourth about crushes and what to add to their my space background, turned into something all parents and Myspace users should be wary of.
There's no reason to neglect free websites such as Myspace.com and the Hi5 network. Paste all the crazy photos and music clips on your my space background you please. Just be careful about passing out any personal information. Avoid posting your address, phone number, last name, and even the school you go to. There are too many deviants just waiting to be tossed a bone. |
