Or, maybe that person simply likes to give others a hard time in every aspect of life. That’s one of the things that difficult people excel at.No one likes to deal with difficult people. If you have a job that requires you to work with the public in person or on the phone, you probably have had to deal with more than your share of difficult people. Customers will call in demanding answers and solutions beyond your capabilities and escalate issues that don’t even exist. Coworkers might not be the most pleasant to work with and you have to sit there and tolerate their attitude problems all day long. Bosses might be too demanding and not listen to reason when it comes to company issues.
There are so many places in which you will encounter difficult people. Unfortunately, there is no chance of eliminating all of the difficult people from the world or ridding of negativity. It is simply a fact of life. And truthfully, at one time or another, we’ve all been difficult to some degree. Perhaps you’ve argued with your parents or been the demanding individual being disgruntled to customer service representatives. We can’t help it. At some point, there is a need to be somewhat difficult. There is a fine line that should be drawn though.
Being difficult when it is necessary and pleasant the rest of the times in your life is a healthy balance. It doesn’t always pan out that way, but it is ideal. If you let people walk all over you, then you’ll never get anywhere in the world. It isn’t pleasant to be stepped on either. Certain times and circumstances require a particular level of falling into the category of difficult people. Be sure that when you are coming across as being difficult that it is warranted.
There are so many people that shy away from dealing with difficult people. You never know how to act around them. Do you stand up for yourself and risk a confrontation? Do you challenge their point of view? Do you stand there and let them be demeaning and talk down to you? There is no easy solution to dealing with difficult people. After a while, you become more in tune to how their mannerisms and minds work. And remembering that everyone is different, each one of the difficult people in the work needs to be handled differently. Trust your instincts, stand up for yourself and be true to who you are.
